The Course

Lewis and Clark Monument trails (known locally as L&C) crisscross along a bluff on the edge of Loess Hills. Hills being the dominant feature, this trail system will test lungs and legs. Either you’ll be going up or going down. The start will be at the bottom of Monument Road with racers doing looped laps that will keep them in the trees.

  • Race loop is approximately 5 miles.

The Venue:

Lewis & Clark Monument extends to the edge of a bluff where you can see the Missouri River just as the famed explorers did so long ago. Omaha’s skyline can also be seen in full view. There are modern bathrooms and running water during the spring and summer seasons.

Parking Restrictions:

Because this is a public attraction, parking at the monument is prohibited except for race organizers. Racers can park on the road on the north side of the main entrance. Please do not park in any of the private driveways.

Directions:

19962 Monument Rd, Council Bluffs, IA

Take I-29 to the north side of Council Bluffs. Take the north 25th St exit. Go south to lighted intersection. Take immediate left on Nash Blvd and head east across HWY 92. Road changes to Big Lake Rd. Follow it under a low train bridge (take note: be sure you can drive under low bridge if you have bikes on top of your car. If not, turn around and follow gravel road north and then take right on Monument Rd.) Follow road around Big Lake and go under second (but higher) train bridge. At the intersection turn left onto N. 8th St, which will turn into Mynster Springs Rd. Take the next left on Monument Road. Entrance will be at the top. Parking is not allowed in the park on race day, except for race organizers. See above for parking info.
